Unless you are into Formula 1 you won’t understand this title, and I’m not here to explain it. If you want to know more please look here.
I’m here to comment on Max Verstappen’s recent conduct at a press conference, where he swore – just to prove a point (a rather stupid one at that), but the child that he is, he just couldn’t resist it.
The reason why he did it was because the motor sports governing body (FIA) had introduced an unwise ban on swearing.
Now, I’m not all that fussed if someone swears, I can swear like a trooper myself. I’m not even bothered when an F1 racing driver, travelling in excess of 200 MPH, swearing a way (or should I say – bleeping away (because the broadcaster has bleeped the words out)) – its rather funny actually.
I get it, the adrenaline, fear, danger, no issues what-so-ever.
But at a press conference, devoid of any danger or fear – that’s another matter!
Basically there is a time and a place, and at a press conference, guess what? It isn’t!!
My five-year old nephew understands this concept about when and where you can do or say stuff, and when you can’t. Why can’t an adult?
An F1 Champion no-less, a so-called ambassador to the sport?
Doesn’t look good, does it?
After the main race (at another press conference) he refused to answer any questions on the grounds he might be fined by FIA (because he wanted to swear).
Oh diddums, honestly, want a baby!
At a press conference. There should be a level of professionalism. In fact I demand professionalism and courtesy here. It’s not difficult. Not only that, there are sponsors that pay his blasted (and over inflated) salary!
Don’t they deserve some respect and accountability? Apparently not.
I do hope his sponsors say something to him, something that will perhaps, put him in his place. I assure you, if I was such a sponsor, I would be voicing some home truths that he would not like at all! I would also even consider voting with my feet and taking my funds elsewhere!
This is simply because his attitude and conduct reflect badly on his sponsors!
Now he has threatened to leave the sport (again).
Oh please, for pity’s-sake!
I’m not holding my breathe!
