Collection of random brainwaves written down in haste and without any effort. Mostly about linux, *bsd or programming.
I was asked some questions the other day about the purpose and the USP (unique selling-point) of tilde.guru. I’ve tried to answer these questions over and over in my head in many different perspectives but I do not think I can deliver a short answer. So if you would allow me a few minutes of your time here follows the reasoning;
There are two states any person can be in at anytime, creating or consuming!
Most of us move between these states and the amount of time spent in either state differs between people and where you are in life. Tildeverse - as I perceive it - is an enabler for creating. Tildeverse exists to enable people to create, share and interact. We who run tilde-servers try to make it easier and more fun to create and share but we do not create for you. Obviously some consumption is intended as well but mostly the consumption of other tildeans creations.

Tildeverse does not recruit!
There is no soul purpose anywhere in tildeverse to become as many users as possible for the sake of numbers. Obviously we all think it’s nice to have more people to share creations and conversations with but there is no active recruitment process.
As I mentioned in the first part - tilde-servers are enablers. If you have something you want to create or if you want to be part of a community, then you are most welcome to join any tilde-server you find interesting. And while we try to shape the tilde-servers in a way that the users want we are not a service of any kind. tilde-servers are not service providers in anyway. We do not offer support around the clock and we do not have salespeople to recruit new users. It’s a volentary project in the spirit of “fun” and “community”. And while this can sound limiting I would argue the oposit. This means that we can - together - shape the tilde-server in anyway that the users wants it to be shaped.

Tilde.guru is a democracy!
Im reluctant to talk about “USP” but if I were to give a few properties that defined tilde.guru I would say;
We’re a democracy. I made sure to give sudo-right early on to a few other users, and I’m willing to give it to more users. This to make sure that the server is being shaped and run by the community and not by one single individual.
Code of Conducts are quite simple; Stay within the law and do not destroy for others. That is it. Obviously we say what pretty much every community out there says as well and that is; No racism, no porn and no violence.

So, to summarize; Tilde.guru can be what every you want it to be, we do not judge whatever you create and share but I will not go out and sell tilde.guru to anyone. You are welcome to join if you want to but if it’s not for you then it’s not for you.
