kparker here. 2024-12-01.
I'm back on my 2 gig RAM laptop. It had running Slack for almost a year--no restarting. Then I decided to push FreeDOS on it--removed after a few hours. It wasn't exactly what I wanted; also, I had some issues trying to run OPENGEM--it's still cool to play with it via a second drive system.
FreeBSD didn't run smoothly as it does on my old Macbook 2011, so I decided to get back to Slack.
One thing that always sucked in this machine was the use of Journaling partition; and I remember about it only after using the system and getting the first crash. It's like: Journaling here, randomly after some time, makes the internal drive come to a read-only state. Super annoying.
The solution? I just move to use EXT2 and that's all fine. Like I said, it stood almost a year running like a charm.
Slackware as pretty much the default install, except KDE and Xfce series packages. Then I add these other extra packages below and I'm pretty happy and with a fully functional--low on resources--system.
Finally, I needed a simple, dimmed spot on the internet to share my stuff. tilde.guru is just like that: perfect fit, solid system, interesting to play with.
